Is Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement Right for You?

Reverse total shoulder replacement may work better for you if you have arthritis and a rotator cuff that is deficient or cannot be repaired. During this procedure, the placement of the ball and socket are switched: a metal ball is attached to the glenoid and a plastic socket is attached to the upper arm bone (humerus), where the natural ball used to be. Reversing the position of the ball and socket helps maximize shoulder movement by allowing other muscles to take over the function of the damaged rotator cuff.
